Traditional Crafts from Orava

Pottery

Orava is very famous for its pottery. The most famous one is the Trstena pottery, but various pottery products were also made in the villages of Velicna and Podbiel.

Stone-cutting

This craft was mainly developed in the lower Orava region in the villages such as Bziny, Medzibrodie, Pucov and Oravsky Biely Potok. The stone-cutters made sharpners, various working tools, sharpners for sharpening scythes and the more talented also managed the production of stone boards, gravestones and statues.

In Dolny Kubin were also active chimey sweepers, belt makers, coopers, bakers, barbers, butchers, publicans and others.
