Bohun, Peter Michal Slavomir

Died: 20/05/1879 Bielsko-Biala, Poland
Peter Bohun was born in the village of Velicna and was the son
of the priest, Jan Bohun. Peter studied in Gemer, Levoca, Kezmarok
and in Prague, where he was supported by the Union Tatrin.
Bohun belonged to the Stur group and became famous as a painter.
Most of his works are based on motives from the Orava region.
Bohun also excelled as a rare artist of portraits. His work is
presented through pieces such as the sketch "Slovenske ludove
zhromazdenie" (Slovak folk assembling), where the figures are
painted in the national costumes from the whole of Slovakia.
Bohun's paintings are not only found in most Slovak galleries,
but also in Prague, Poland, and other places in Europe.
