Bohun, Peter Michal Slavomir

Born: 29/09/1822 Velicna, Dolny Kubin region
Died: 20/05/1879 Bielsko-Biala, Poland

Peter Bohun was born in the village of Velicna and was the son of the priest, Jan Bohun. Peter studied in Gemer, Levoca, Kezmarok and in Prague, where he was supported by the Union Tatrin.

Bohun belonged to the Stur group and became famous as a painter. Most of his works are based on motives from the Orava region.

Bohun also excelled as a rare artist of portraits. His work is presented through pieces such as the sketch "Slovenske ludove zhromazdenie" (Slovak folk assembling), where the figures are painted in the national costumes from the whole of Slovakia.

Bohun's paintings are not only found in most Slovak galleries, but also in Prague, Poland, and other places in Europe.
