Andrej Radlinsky was born in Dolny Kubin and achieved fame by being
one of the founder members of Matica Slovenska and the Union of
St. Vojtech.
Radlinsky began his studies in Ruzomberok and Kremnica, and from
the year 1833 began to study theology in Trnava, which he then went
on to finish in Vienna.
As a priest, Radlinsky worked in Zlate Moravce and Banska Stiavnica,
from where he run away to Vienna during the revolutionary years.
After the revolution he became the editor of a Slovak newspaper
in Vienna and an organizator of the Slovak National Movement. Together
with Stur, Hurban, Hodza and others, he worked on the creation of
the Slovak language.
Radlinsky played a big part in developing a better cultural and
literary life in Slovakia, and wrote and published more than 40
books.
