Amateur Theater in Orava
In 1940, a new amateur theater stage was founded in Dolny Kubin,
which was established by the Catholic Circle in the former Hotel
Biheler, today's Catholic house.
The period during the Second World War wasn't very prosperous for
cultural activity. After 1945, the amateurs from Dolny Kubin played
theater performances and were grouped in the local branch of Matica
Slovenska. The plays from authors such as Ivan Stodola, J.K. Tyla,
Ondreja Antala, or Petra Karvasa were performed.
In the 1950s, the interest of amateur theater in Dolny Kubin was
slowly declining, mainly thanks to the introduction of TV and to
the ever changing cultural and social interests of people in the
region.
