Literature in Orava
Ladislav Nadasi-Jege - He was a writer and translator. He
wrote his works under the name Jan Grob, J. G., from which came
the pseudonym Jege. His famous historic prose includes works such
as Wieniawskeho legenda, Adam Sangala, Svatopluk. The themes of
life in Dolny Kubin are described in pieces: Cesta zivotom, Alina
Orszaghova. He also wrote some plays and was the editor of the weekly
"Orava" and "Our Orava" newspapers.
Jan Smetanay - He wrote stories, worked as a translator
and published his articles in Slovenskych pohladoch. His works include
for example Pani z Oravy, Nase Noclahy, Moj strazmajster, Z dob
nasich otcov, Za letneho vecera, Z dob utrpenia, Matoha and others.
Aurel Styk - He translated from Russian, mainly the works
of Puskin, Tolstoj prose and Turgenevove fairytales.
Karol Stiasny - He was the only person from Dolny Kubin
literary active abroad, mainly in America. There he worked as an
editor of various newspapers, for example "Slovensky sokol.
Slovak in America", an American-slovak newspaper. Together
with L.N. Jege he co-founded the Orava newspaper.
