Literature in Orava
Adolf Medzihradsky - This teacher was very interesting because
he taught his students subjects such as geography, biology and nature
studies totally in verse. He was the founder of the Economic and
Fruit Association and the Choir Lyra. He was a pen friend of P.O.
Hviezdoslav.
Pavol Orszagh Hviezdoslav - One of the most famous Slovak
poets. He is the author of the poem composition Hajnikova zena,
which he wrote during his stay in Namestovo. In Dolny Kubin he created
works such as the story of Gabor Vlkolinsky, where he described
the attitudes and relationships in his birth town of Vysny Kubin.
Other famous pieces include Dotyky, Stesky, the dramatic poem of
Herodes and Herodias, Krvave sonety, which he wrote having spent
WWI in Dolny Kubin.
Pavol Bujnak - He was the author of "The short history
of the Czechoslovak literature until the Stur period", and
a Slovak poet.
Jan Lehotsky - In his book "Prve stvrtstorocie of my
life", he described his childhood and youth years and the period
and attitudes in Dolny Kubin between the years 1859 - 1909. He also
collected folk fairytales, which were published under the name of
Povesti oravske (Orava Tales).
