Climate
The area of Dolny Kubin, and its surroundings, is famous for its
cold and humid climate. It is actually the coldest region in Slovakia.
The climatic conditions are mainly influenced by the position of
this region.
Dolny Kubin is situated at the northwestern edge of the Western
Carpathian mountain range, and so it is effected by the humid air-streams,
which flow from that direction.
On average, the warmest month of the year is July, with a temperature
of 23,1°C, and the coldest month is January, with a temperature
of - 9,2°C.
The average yearly rain fall is between 800 and 1200 mm. In the
area of Dolny Kubin the most rain falls in July and the least in
February. However, ski lovers can enjoy the skiing for quite a long
time in the Orava region. The snow lies for an average of 130 days,
and in the higher altitudes even 160-180 days.
